The solar eclipse during totality, seen from outside Kuttawa, Kentucky; the multiple photographs are stitched together to create this sequence of the progression of the Moon across the Sun. The last two images in the sequence - the “Diamond Ring” and the corona - are the most famous. A few solar prominences are visible around the lunar limb. Also called the Great American Eclipse, this occurred at August 29, 2017.
The longest ground duration of totality was 2 minutes 41.6 seconds at about 37°35′0″N 89°7′0″W in Giant City State Park, just south of Carbondale, Illinois, and the greatest extent (width) was at 36°58′0″N 87°40′18″W near the village of Cerulean, Kentucky - about 30 miles from where this photo was made.
